Dear Members of the AIT Community and Alumni Friends,
It is with great sadness that I would like to announce the passing away
of two distinguished AIT alumni.
1. Dr. Srisook Chandrangsu AIT/TRE 1969
A distinguished senior alumnus who passed away yesterday was Dr.Srisook Chandrangsu. On behalf of all members of the AIT community, I would like to convey our heartfelt condolences to Dr. Srisook's family members during this time of bereavement.
Dr. Srisook obtained his Master of Engineering in 1969 from Asian Institute of Technology in the field of Transportation Engineering, and his Ph.D. in Transportation Systems Planning from the Ohio State University, US in 1973. Dr. Srisook's career history clearly manifests his devotion and commitment to share and apply his knowledge and
expertise for the progress of this country Thailand in the field of transportation engineering.
Dr. Srisook committed his prime productive years in serving his country through the Ministry of Transport and Communications, in various positions including Director of Transport and Communications Committee Services Division, Director of the Department of Highway, Director of Transport and Communications Economic Division, Inspector-General, Director-General of the Department of Aviation, Permanent Secretary to the Ministry of Transport and Communications, and as Chairman of the Board of the Airports of Thailand (AOT) Public Company Limited.
Personally, I have had a brief chance to work closely with him when I served as a member of the Board of Directors of AOT in 2004-6, under his Chairmanship. I have witnessed his determination not only in trying to complete the Suvarnabhumi Airport under a very tight time frame, but also in making the new Airport a world class with state of the arts and modern technologies. Dr Srisook played an important role that enabled the Suvarnabhumi Airport project to be completed in 5 years after wasting 4 decades since its inception.
Dr. Srisook was a staunch supporter of AIT, having served as the President of the AIT Alumni Association (AITAA), Chairman of the School of Engineering & Technology (SET) Board, and also as an Adjunct Faculty in the Transportation Engineering (TRE) Field of Study. In recognition of Dr. Srisook's remarkable achievements and distinguished services in the public sector for the economic development of Thailand, he was bestowed the 'Distinguished AIT Alumni in Governmental Services' in 2003 by the AIT Alumni Association.
Dr. Srisook will be dearly missed and the Institute remains thankful and indebted to Dr. Srisook for all the valuable contributions he has made over his illustrious career and life. Our thoughts and prayers are always with his family members. A ritual process will be held at Sala 10 Wat Thadthong at 16:00 hrstoday (11 March 2014).
2. Mr. Kee Book Hee, AIT/Env 1982
It is with a sense of deep sadness that I would like to share with you the passing away of one of AIT's distinguished alumni, Mr. Kee Book Hee, in Malaysia on 11th March 2014. On behalf of the AIT community, I would like to extend our heartfelt condolences to Mr.Kee's family members during this time of bereavement.
Mr. Kee obtained his Master of Engineering in 1982 from AIT's Environmental Engineering Division. After that, Mr. Kee established his own construction and real estate firm, the Frontier Bond (M) Sdn Bhd, and his business has been very successful not only in Malaysia but also in neighboring countries.
Mr. Kee Book Hee was a staunch and loyal supporter of AIT, having served as the President of the AITAA Malaysia Chapter for several years and during his tenure has raised funds to provide scholarships for Malaysian students to study at AIT. Mr.Kee himself was a generous donor to the AIT Endowment fund campaign, and two of his three sons also graduated from AIT.
I have known Mr. Kee personally for many years as he has always offered full supports and care to AIT. My last visit to Mr. Kee was in November 2013 when we discussed about the fundraising strategy for campus development. Mr. Kee will be dearly missed and AIT is grateful for all the contributions he has given back to his beloved Institute. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family members.
Yours sincerely,
Professor Worsak Kanok-Nukulchai
