Dear Alumni and Friends,
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing away of AIT Alumnus Mr. Le Hoang Viet. He was suffering from liver cancer over the last couple of years and passed away on 30th March 2017.
Mr. Viet is a student at the guitar-mandolin faculty of the former Saigon National Conservatory, now the HCMC Conservatory, Le Hoang Viet finally became an energy conservationist in Vietnam.
When the country reunited in 1975, Mr. Viet had studied at the conservatory for six years. In 1972, he also started studying at Cao Thang Technical School in addition to learning music. Mr. Viet continued his music lessons until 1978 when he enlisted into the army. Returning to civilian life, thanks to his technical background at Cao Thang School, Mr. Viet applied for a job at a university factory before working for the Power Company 2 in HCMC. In 1985, he enrolled as a student of higher education for adults offered by the automobile-tractor faculty at the HCMC Polytechnics. Graduating from the university in 1990, Mr. Viet worked for the Research Center of the Power Company 2.
Mr. Viet was awarded a French Government scholarship in 1994 to pursue master’s degree course in energy technology at AIT. When Mr. Viet returned home in 1995 after his studies at AIT, he joined Trans Energ, a French-founded organization in Vietnam specializing in energy conservation. In 1999 Trans Energ turned into Enerteam, an independent organization specializing in energy conservation and resources management.
Mr. Viet became Director of Enerteam in 2007. In 2012, Le Hoang Viet received the Global Energy Award on behalf of Enerteam for the development of “continuous four-compartment kiln powered by rice husk gasification” project at Tan Mai ceramic company in Sa Dec, Dong Thap Province. Mr. Viet is survived by his wife and son.
On behalf of the AIT community, we would like to express our heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family.
